Desert plants can be very pretty, too! Barrel Cacti can grow flowers that are usually yellow, greenish-yellow, purplish-red, or orange color. There is also an amazing “plant” called a Desert Rose that is actually made out of sand crystals. They appear in little groups and look like rose petals. Also, when it rains, deserts bursts into bloom, and flowers of almost every color spring up everywhere! It’s a wonderful sight!

Desert plants are adapted to desert life, so desert plants usually have a lot of water in them, right? Yes! That is right! The Giant Saguaro Cactus has enough water in it to let you take 1,000 bathes in! Barrel Cacti also store tons of water. They fill with water till there bursting at the seems and look just like a barrel, hence the name!

Desert plants are usually widely spaced because they each need a ton of water. If they where closer together then they would not get enough water to last them through a hot summer, and they would die out.
